I've been in the process of moving and just turned in the keys to my old place today. After picking up my older kids from high school, we stopped by Home Depot for a quick errand, then went to get the little ones from daycare. My daughter and I went inside to get the kids while my son stayed in the van, resting in the backseat. A green Audi was seen scoping out our vehicle. Once the parking lot cleared out, someone from the back passenger seat jumped out, opened my van’s front door, and stole my purse—not realizing my son was in the back. The suspect was described as tan-skinned, wearing a beanie and a mask. My son saw him but didn’t react, which I’m thankful for—who knows what could’ve happened. There were multiple people in the vehicle. As they sped off, my son jumped out and managed to snap a picture of the car and immediately ran inside to call 911. I was still inside the daycare wondering where he went—I thought maybe he went to the bathroom. The director then told me what had happened. I’ve locked all my cards, but my purse, military ID, house keys, AirPods, and cash from the move were taken. I’m tracking the AirPods and updating police with any location changes. Watching this video over and over again on how my son panicked and ran so close to the car to snap a photo makes me feel all sorts of things. It could have gotten bad but I’m so glad he’s safe. We’re safe. Material things are replaceable. Lives aren’t.
