Last night on July 2nd, 6:45pm at Locust Fork Road and Graves Road in Stamping Ground, I got to see a little glimpse of the *worst* of humanity... 4 other cyclists from Bluegrass Cycling Club (BCC) and myself were on the "A" group ride, and had briefly stopped to reform, get a sip of water, and catch our breath. We were fully out of the way, with no other traffic coming either way on either of the aforementioned roads. We didn't slow or impede any motorists, and our stopped/resting positioning was similarly courteous and not blocking any legal traffic maneuvers. Honestly, it may have been the most "out of the way" we could have been while still being on the tarmac! We hadn't seen a car in miles during this stretch. It was then that this aqua/teal Ford compact car came, approaching from the south on Locust Fork Rd. While my video only captures part of the aggressive and obscene audio, this driver and his companion felt it appropriate to go on an f-bomb filled tirade (I counted at least 5...he may have gotten in another 2 or 3 on his way up the road) that started about 30 yards before he got near me, aggressively telling all of us that it was his road, and to stay off of it, and that we were scum. (That's the most PG way I can put it...) I have no idea who this guy is or what is going on in his life. I can say with a fair amount of certainty that had we been walkers, runners, a farmer in a tractor, or an Amazon delivery truck, he wouldn't have felt so bold. I honestly think if he hadn't seen the size of our group (I was out solo and was the first one he passed from the vantage point of this photo), he would have been even more aggressive, perhaps even physically. I could legally file a harassment report (I have his license plate), but I think that education is the better way to address the matter at this point. This is just a reminder to be kind. We can all get impatient, but the territorial aggressiveness that this man exhibited was appalling, especially with no wrong or harm done. Fortunately, I have the full video of the incident, and this is one of many reasons I run a camera while out on the bike.
