There are 3 types of e-bus on the market, the most popular being <strong>battery electric buses<\/strong>, which accounted for <\/span><b>90% of the market share<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in 2021. Instead of an internal combustion engine and a fuel tank, these buses draw energy from an on-board battery to power an electric motor. The benefits of battery electric buses are:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No greenhouse gas emissions or pollutants are produced.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They offer a smoother and quieter ride, therefore reducing noise pollution.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Using the latest rapid charging technology, they can be charged in just 10-20 minutes.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><div>\u00a0<\/div><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The two other types of electric buses are:<\/span><\/p><ul><li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Hybrid electric buses<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which combine a diesel internal combustion engine with an electric motor. These models do generate greenhouse gas emissions but emit up to 25% less CO<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">than their fully diesel counterparts.<\/span><\/li><li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Fuel cell electric buses (FCEBs)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which convert hydrogen into electricity in a fuel cell, a process that only produces water and heat as byproducts. The benefits of this early and widespread adoption are already tangible &#8211; air and water pollution levels have fallen significantly. In Beijing, the number of days with heavy pollution decreased from 43 in 2015 to just 10 in 2020, a drop of nearly 80%.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is no surprise then, that the largest e-bus manufacturers in the world are Chinese.
